AUTONOMOUS DISTRICT COUNCILS, MANIPUR
The Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), Manipur were established under the Manipur (Hills Areas) District Councils Act, 1971. It has 6 (six) Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) namely Chandel, Churachandpur, Sadar Hills-Kangpokpi, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul. Under the Autonomous District Councils, Manipur, there are various departments and functions like the Public Works, Education, Medical, Agriculture, Veterinary and Town Planning (in Churachandpur only). Headquarter staff are managed by each ADC within its jurisdiction. The administration of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) is managed by the elected members, with some being nominated by the Governor for a term of 5 years. These councils have specific powers related to the areas of Tribal Affairs and Hills, including the ability to make laws, rules and regulations concerning land, forests and other matters. The Autonomous District Councils receive funding from the State government and the Central grants.
